KATHMANDU, Nepal–It eats plenty of diets and sleeps well. Neither it has any health complication. However, it does not seem happy and excited like those other wild creatures.
Of course, the lone red panda in central zoo at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur is doing quite well except for its apparent sad for a mate.
According to zoo officials, the panda is reeling under deep depression due to the lack of a partner, forcing them to be serious about the issue.
The officials have requested the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Reserves (DNPWC) in Kathmandu to manage mate for the red cat bear as soon as possible.
An official at the department informed that some formal process has to be carried out on the part of the department before the zoo officials start looking for another panda which is mainly found in Nepal’s Himalaya.
The 15 month old panda has already spent more than eight months in the central zoo at a separate cage along with other wild beasts nearby.
The forest official at Churchure VDC-2 in Ramchhap had spotted the panda in March of this year in critical situation and was later brought to central zoo. Due to the tender love and care of zoo officials, it rapidly showed sign of improvements and slowly turned fleshy, forcing the officials to cut down its usual diet.
Sagarmatha National Park, Annapurna Conservation Area, Langtang National Park, Manaslu Conservation Area, Makalu Barun National Park and Kanchenjunga Conservation Area , located at the high altitude, are some of the suitable habitats of red panda in Nepal.
