Khumbu valley sees fewer tourists this season

KATHMANDU, Nepal – Number of tourists visiting Khumbu area in the Sagarmatha National Park during the period of November-December this year has dropped by 107 in comparison to the same period last year.

Total 2,665 tourists visited Khumbu area, the gateway to the Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, during the month this year while it was 2,772 last year.

According to Sagarmatha National Park office in Namche, total 2,665 tourists including 954 women and 1,711 men visited national park in the month.

Last year in the same period 46 tourists from SAARC region and 2,726 from other countries had visited the region.

The national park had collected revenue of Rs 6.81 million in the period of November and December this year.

From mid-September to mid-December is the main tourist season in Nepal when a considerable number of foreign tourists visit the country.

According to the statistics of the Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, a total of 55,245 international visitors arrived in Nepal in the month of November alone.
