Eying on Everest visually impaired KC worries over fund

KATHMANDU, Nepal- A visually impaired teacher Amit KC who aims to scale the world´s highest mountain, Mt Everest, in May of 2015 is worrying over the amount required for his expedition.

KC, 30, from a western district of Baglung and teaching in the district headquarters for four years is asking for assistance from all to collect donation required for his mountaineering expedition. He says his expedition will cost some Rs 10 million.

Although he will set out on the expedition in May 2015, KC is worried for the amount for making technical preparations, training and other managerial aspects. In a bid to discuss for raising fund for his expedition, the district base Chamber of Commerce has called an all-sides meeting for coming December 11, 2013.

KC who took one month training of rock climbing in Pokhara, Nagarjun and Thamel of Kathmandu is now doing exercises for physical and mental preparations for climbing.

He is also engaged in various social welfare organizations.

A few months ago, during a programme in Kathmandu KC said he wanted to break the wrong perception about the handicapped people that they cannot work as others. ‘ If I succeed, it would be a matter of pride for both the country and the handicapped people,’ he had said on one occasion.

If his plan goes successful, he will be the first visually impaired to reach the 8,848 meter highest peak in the world. Earlier, American blind Erik Weihenmayer had atop Mt. Everest in May, 2001.
